Spiritual Escapism...and where are you going?

Spiritual Escapism...and where are you going?

In order to experience everyday spirituality, we need to remember that we are spiritual beings spending some time in a human body.
— Barbara De Angelis

“Ironically, to Campbell, the end of the hero’s journey is not the aggrandizement of the hero. It’s not to identify oneself with any of the figures or powers experienced. The Indian yogi, striving for release, identifies himself with the Light and never returns. But no one with a will to the service of others would permit himself such an escape. The ultimate aim of the quest must be neither release nor ecstasy for oneself, but the wisdom and the power to serve others. One of the many distinctions between the celebrity and the hero is that one lives only for self while the other acts to redeem society.“

So poignant, beautiful of a statement, and so timely for all those of us who wander/travel life’s sacred path. It made me ponder… There is much escapism in today’s world, particularly western society, including much beloved esoteric circles- so dear to my heart. The world “somewhere out there” sounds appealing and understandably so; longing for the stars-home, engaging in interesting discussions of whats “out there”, I get it. Nothing wrong with it, so long as one doesn't get stuck there while being unable to function here on Earth. It doesn't serve and it's distracting. There surely is a whole lot of mess, chaos going on the planet, so naturally one would want to escape this “s**t hole” (we co-created btw), check out because of the sheer madness of it all; poverty, ecological destruction, warring amongst each other, hatred, helplessness, the extreme energetic heaviness - something “sensitives/empaths” are so familiar with. List is long. Wanting to escape the uncomfortable/the painful/the dark is part of human condition. Who wants to face it? It’s challenging. It can be so overwhelming that we stagger under the weight of it all.

However, there is so much beauty here, for those with eyes to see. We have come here for a reason, of which reason we may not fully remember or perhaps have just brief moments of clarity on occasion. We are here to evolve further, to expand our horizons, to have a wide range of human experiences, to contribute and serve collective Human Soul. So escapism dearest of Souls does not serve the human collective. Lets get our ducks in a row, energetically speaking so that we can be constructive in our co-creating efforts, active in our pursuits individually, as well as collectively. My heart’s wisdom tells me our wanting to go home is deeply embedded and woven into our being and that HOME is within our hearts. So remain grounded, balanced and in heart space, broadcasting love, kindness, compassion and unity with all that is. Be here and now! Be spiritually practical. Offer a smile, a kind word, send a blessing towards a person, embody loving thoughts. Do the little things, they matter. Happy travels inward.

Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do. ~ Bruce Lee
